How to Change Interface Theme in Visual Studio

Visual Studio offers a fully customizable interface but it might be a bit complicated to get it all perfect or find a theme that suits you. We will explore two options, the quick and painless version and the hardcore user version.

Quick and Painless!

Basically, Visual Studio offers three default themes to choose from: Blue, Light and Dark. To change the theme in your Visual Studio 2015, simply click on the menu item Tools -> Options. It should prompt a Window like the one below.

Visual Studio Colors

You can see a drop down list at the top which indicates Dark at the moment, simply click on the drop down list and it will show the two other items.

Here is a comparison between all of the basic themes available.

Color Theme Dark

Color Theme Blue

Color Theme Light

Note: I do see a few glitches on my side when I switch from one color theme to another, you might want to restart Visual Studio if you experience the same issue.

Hardcore User!

If you don’t like some of the color or the font of Visual Studio, you can also change the settings in the menu Tools -> Options and Fonts and Colors. This will prompt a window that will look like this:

Fonts and Colors

You can change all the colors for any aspect of you text editor or any other part of your Visual Studio interface. I still thing that the basic color scheme can get you started pretty quick, but if you want a full customizable experience, you have it there!
